My name is Brian Fritz and I’m a local artist specializing in birds, but in a modern art kind of way. Bold colors, fun patterns, emotional brushstrokes, all that fun stuff. Strange Symmetries

I’m exploring the nature of meaning in this series. Sometimes I even say that with a straight face!
But really, do these marks and patterns actually mean anything? Is that meaning different for you than it for me? Does the symbolism of a specific bird change that meaning? What effect does the color have? Is something important or meaningful just because it’s in gold?

Affirmations

This series is my attempt to put more love into the world. It started with affirmations to myself that I figured a few other people might need as well. But they resonate on a deeper level. The color and the words come together with the birds to make something else entirely. Something much more powerful than any one of those elements alone.

Synanthropes

Synanthropes are creatures that live among us and have adapted to thrive in human-altered environments. These are some of my favorite creatures.
I started out with a color-blocked background, then ripped off the masking tape early and let the paint drip. The geometric shapes represent the rules and structures we put on the world. The drips and breaks in those lines reflect how these creatures break those boundaries and live on their own terms.

Everyone loves a hummingbird. That’s why I paint so many of them!
