Fennville Poppy Fields

$250.00

Description

11×14″ acrylic on panel, framed

Pure, unadulterated chaos. In the most eye-pleasing way.

There is a poppy field in Fennville, over by Saugatuck and Douglas on the west side of the state. It’s a memorial by a farming family for their adopted son, who served in Afghanistan and later took his own life. It’s a beautiful way to memorialize their lost son, a truly moving tribute.

And when I heard about it, I knew I had to go over there and paint it! But this was no easy-breezy painting. Just breezy. As in windy. Everything was flowing back and forth with the wind, making it impossible to find a visual anchor for the overall composition. So I did the best I could, used some palette knife for the closer flowers, packed up and headed to the beach. I don’t have to love every painting, I just have to tell a story with it.
