10×20″ Acrylic on Canvas I have a little tradition where every year around the end of May, I pack up my painting kit and head on down to the Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor to paint the peony gardens. The W. E. Upjohn peony garden is one of the world’s most extensive peony collections, boasting over 350 varieties and over 10,000 blooms at peak bloom. I chose to focus on just a couple plants out of the many for this one. From what I can tell, this variety is called “May Lilac.” Which really only confuses me more… This painting took a little over 3 glorious hours sitting in the late summer sun as the heavenly scent of the blooms swirled around me. It was just a great multi-sensory experience. These paintings tend to go fast and I’m not making any prints. I’m willing to help source a frame though.
