12×16 Acrylic on Canvas
A plein air study I painted at the U of M Matthaei gardens.
I’ve always loved this little bridge and even got the chance to take engagement photos there with Grace.
In this particular study, I’m trying to simplify my shapes a little and think about the thin tree branches in terms of negative space. In other words, I’m painting around them. Otherwise I was just enjoying the composition that was just sitting there waiting for me to paint it!
The gardens are a local gem and you should definitely visit if you’re in the Ann Arbor area. Even if it’s an overcast day!
