Pastel on sanded paper, 11×14 matted
It was a LONG day
There I was in Saranac, MI, for the Dirty 30 gravel bike race.
The gun goes off, I push down on the pedals, and…it’s slower than expected.
I pull over to the side of the road to check my rear tire and figure out if it’s flat or something.
Nope. The right-side rear dropout is cracked.
Well there goes my race.
I drove over with a friend who was still going to ride, so I hiked it on over to the nearby Fred Meijer rail trail and walked for about eight miles.
Along that walk, I took a bunch of pictures of course. But I also caught one of a couple of vultures perching on the roof of a barn. It was perfect. It was a scene basically asking me to paint it!
A note about pastels:
Pastels are basically just pigment dust on paper, so you can imagine how fragile they are. That’s part of the reason why I don’t mail them out like prints or watercolors. And so, to the extent that I can manage, I would prefer these to go to local Southeast Michigan collectors so I can personally deliver them.
