Inspired by the iconic trail at Zion National Park, The Watchman depicts a blooming yucca plant on the side of the trail with a mountain looming in the background.

In May of 2023, my wife and I took a belated honeymoon trip to Utah and Arizona to visit Zion, Bryce and Canyon and the Grand Canyon. We had an absolute blast and I filled up a whole memory card before we crossed state lines. It was that beautiful and inspiring.

This is my first attempt at recalling some of that beauty in the form of a painting. I remember saying to myself over and over “oh wow, I’d love to paint this!” and this is the start of the process. It was only a week or so, but this trip changed my life and will inspire me forever.

The Watchman is perfect for the collector who has been to the Southwest and loved the red dust on their boots, who has seen the giant sunsets in Utah and felt the vastness of the universe under the stars in a remote town in the middle of the most beautiful nowhere. The painting may be small, but the feelings are as big as the canyons.
