Description
Floating by the sandstone cliffs of tiii-i-ime
14×18″ jigsaw-style print on 18×24 paper
Inspired by a trip to Munising, MI to see the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore in the middle of Summer 2021.
This is my biggest print to date and I needed the help of so many of my friends to make it happen. I used a slab roller in a pottery studio for the press and for the first time, I had a studio assistant to help and document the process.
The trip up to Munising is, in my opinion, a quintessential part of being a Michigander. Not only do you get to cross the mighty Mackinac Bridge, but you also get to experience the vast wilderness of the upper peninsula. If you’ve never been there, I HIGHLY encourage you to pack a bag and go!
Lake Michigan is impressive and it will always have my heart, but Superior is a whole other beast.
Miners Castle is a a neat formation of Precambrian and Paleozoic age sandstone on the shore of Lake Superior. It contains three different eras of sandstone deposits with different sources and characteristics. It’s like looking back in time. (I hope this fully explains the pun in the title.)
This print is made with Cranfield Caligo Safewash ink on Canson multimedia paper. The block is a jigsaw-style print, where a larger block is cut apart, the pieces are inked separately and the whole block is put back together for printing.
Since this is such a large item, local pickup is preferred.
