Bring a piece of northern Michigan home with you!

This is a pre-order for the first printing of Sunrise Loon, created by Brian Fritz in 2025. This edition is printed with 250gsm BFK Rives Printmaking Paper and Cranfield Caligo Safewash ink. It will be colored with Winsor and Newton professional grade watercolors, approximately like the rendering shown.

8×10 print, matted out to 11×14 inches of a common loon stretching its wings in the sunrise off of Drummond Island. Inspired by stained glass and mosaics, this loon really packs a visual punch.

I’ve been getting into stained glass lately. The aesthetics mainly, but I’m also fascinated by the techniques. This design originated as a jersey design for the League of Michigan Bicyclists in Spring 2025.

The idea was to borrow from the language of stained glass–all the religious symbolism and the use of literal sunlight–and apply it to a natural scene that you might experience on the MUP tour of the Upper Peninsula. Specifically, the imagery is drawn from Drummond Island, a main destination of the ride.

I believe there are beautiful, spiritual experiences all around us, in every day life. Whether that’s a long bike tour up north or seeing a loon for the first time, it’s special and it can change your life.
