A plein air painting from a trip to Traverse City in the late summer of 2024.

If we’re going up to Traverse, I may as well bring my paints! I was determined to paint a vineyard en plein air, so my wife Grace and I went up toward Sutton’s Bay to find the right one. We stumbled on Ciccone Vineyards and I absolutely fell in love with the view. So I grabbed a glass of cider and got to work! I love how you can see grape vines in the foreground and Grand Traverse Bay in the background. I feel like it really sets this painting in a particular place and gives it that northern Michigan flavor.
