The Watchman
8×10 acrylic on canvas
In May 2023, my wife and I went on a trip to Utah and Arizona for our belated honeymoon getaway. And we’ve been dreaming about going back ever since.
Our first stop on the trip was Zion National Park, a vast and beautiful national park in a canyon in Springdale, UT. It was amazing. One of the most notable formations in the canyon is the Watchman. It watches over most of the main part of the park and it’s easily the most popular out-and-back hike in the park.
On our way up the Watchman trail on our third day in the park, I snapped a picture of a yucca plant and some scrub bush framing the trail with the Watchman looming over the right side. And of course my phone camera didn’t do the scene justice.
But that’s why I paint!
This is one of my many love letters to places I’ve visited and I hope it can help you commemorate your trip as well.
